Muffler Questions

I just bought some Transom mount mufflers--think they are CORSA. THere is a plate at the end of muffler with a phillips head screw thru it and a nylok nut on back side of plate.

I've got 454 EFI MarinePower factory engines,

What is purpose of plate and screw?

The plate forces the exhaust/water flow to the outside circumference of the muffler. The center bolt attaches a cone shaped deflector on the inside of the plate that improves the flow to the outside of the plate.
