Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Thanks Iggy. If it doesn't start in the morning I'll start looking at the pump, safety switch and regulator.

Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Did you clean out the fuel pickup screen and clean the anti syphon valve if so equipt?

Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Jerry B has a good point about the VST tank, but I'm not sure they have that on a 1999.
Love Machine, if you look at the back of the fuel rail by the distributor, the fuel lines exit and go somewhere. If they go to a VST tank it should be located right off the back of the plenum and it has a screen in it also that filters the fuel and can get plugged. If the VST is causing vapor lock there is a plug on the top of the VST tank that you can pull to relieve any pressure. Need to identify if you have a VST tank when you go to check it out. |
Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Dumb question. What does VST stand for?
|
Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Vapor Separator Tank, and it's not a stupid question. The way this unit works is that a mechanical fuel pump fills up the VST tank and then the high pressure pump takes the fuel out of the VST to the fuel rail then to the injectors. This about the dumbest setup I have run across, but it was their answer to vapor lock.

Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Hey LM, Is your boat still at the boatel? And did you move down to calvert or st marys?

Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Ok, I had boat keys in hand this morning :D. However, after bleeding the Fuel Pressure Check valve the engine still would not stay running. I bled it a few times to no avail.
I just spent a butt load having the uppers refreshed, so I called the service manager. He's going to come out and hook up the diagnostic computer to my engine. I'll let him figure it out. Oh well, hope to be back up running this weekend. |
Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Hey LM .Let us know what he finds. Still sounds like a fuel problem.
Good luck, Jerry. |

Re: Engine starts, but immediately stalls
Hey Love Machine,
I this weekend had a similar problem. I ran about 30 min. to get gas and after putting about 100 gallons in went to start the boat and it started but then stalled. After pulling fuel lines checking for blockages I pulled the fuel water seperators and dumped them. Then filled them all the way to the top and reinstalled new filters and turned the key and they both started and ran great. There are 2 fuel pumps one that fills the fuel water seperator that is mech and one that pumps the fuel to the injectors that is the elec pump. Try filling the seperators all the way up if you get a chance..... Good Luck |
