Searching for Tie Bar for drives
Currently looking for a 21" tie bar to connect OMC cobra drives. Boat still has (intact) brackets on inner drive trim ram ends. Would like to replace missing bar.
Checked Eddie Marine (overkill, and need to use their brackets) Also checked Marine Machine or Machine Marine? Anyway, same deal. Was hoping to get a stainless bar that would attach to my existing brackets and not have to start over. The attachment style looks like one slot and one hole on each bar end. (Pin in slot must allow pivot, while nut/bolt secures bar). I'll post a pic of the brackets when I get home from work on the off chance somebody recognizes the bracket set up. In the meantime I guess I'm asking for additional ideas of where else to search. Thanks. |
Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
I had one made once. Bought 1" S/S solid bar, had the ends tapped. Bought S/S heim joints from CP.

Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
I also have King Cobras, what boat do you have? I have a 1984 Formula 302.

Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
The one with the OMCs is a Chris Craft Stinger 260.
When I had time to take a pic it was pouring. I might fall back on making one up. I know what S/S heim joints are...What's "CP"? Thanks. |
Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives

Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
I have several tie bars in the shop Email the pick and we will see if I have one to fit.
If not I have a couple of long ones that could be cut and modified. |

Ok, sorry it took a couple days. This is my busy season, even if I didn't have boats.
Here's the bracket: |

The distance from center of pin/stud is 21 3/8" without touching anything. There is enough play to easily push both drives toward each other 1/16 of an inch to make an exact 21" between the center, so I don't know whether it was a 21" or a 21 3/8".

It's Hard To Tell By Your Photo If Your Tie Bar Is Going From Side To Side On The Upper Back Cover Or Your Using A U Shapped Bracket On The Bottom Of The Lower Where The Trim Cylinder Shaft Goes. Ron Bender

here's a different pic.

Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
My guess is that the bar went across the "top" so to speak, with the bracket coming in from the side over the top of the pin and the stud.
There's no room below. It would hit the ram arm end. |
Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
Does the tie bar bracket fit over the pin and also have a small bolt in front? 2 holes in the bracket?
|
Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
P Offshore....
I never saw the bar or the joint/bracket on the bar (was missing when I bought boat) but your description would have to be the way it was. What you describe would fit what I have left on the boat. |
Re: Searching for Tie Bar for drives
The pin is toward the transom and the bolt with a nylock is farther from the transom but they line up with each other in a front to rear orientation.
