Re: 502 Efi 1997 Fuel Pressure Reg Questions

I had to replace mine--it had CORRODED thru the metal underneath the paint. THere was no apparent or visible sign of external failure to regulator. The symptoms were very hard start, surge at idle, difficult to keep engine running.

We started checking fuel pressure at various points in EFI system and finally determined the pressures were to high becuase regulator was corroded shut.

Ended up getting the regulator at auto parts store--it's a standard GM part and faily inexpensive

Hope that helps--

Re: 502 Efi 1997 Fuel Pressure Reg Questions

DONZIMAN97, it is located on the front of the fuel rail. If you look down below the front of the intake plenum it has a vacuum hose hooked up to it. You have to check the fuel pressure and see where it is at first. If it is low then it could be the fuel pump or regulator. I'm not sure how to tell if it is bad other than pulling the return fuel line and plugging it to see if the fuel pressure goes way high, like 60-70psi. If it does go high and the pressure is low when it's hooked up, then the regulator is bad. Maybe someone else knows of another way to test it.

It bolts right on the front of the fuel rail, but the only thing you can see is the round diaphram with the 2" vacuum hose hooked up to the intake. Directly under the front of the intake plenum.
