Holley 4150 or 4500?

Just bought two new 540 Motors and need suggestions on carb. Some say the 4150 meters better and a better combo. I hear I will loose 15hp as compared to the Dominator 4500 1050cfm but will get better efficiency and reliablity. Also the 4150 is CG approved as it has return hose. Any thoughts or suggestion are appreciated.

I would definetly use the 4150. I've heard of too many idle problems with the 4500's. If you really have to have the 4500, budget for a pro to set them up.

Re: Holley 4150 or 4500?

I ended up going with 850 CFM 4150 marine Holley's on my 540's. When I had the motors dyno tested and tuned we tried 4500's and picked up about 20 hp above 5500rpm or so, but lost a little torque below 3500. My motors made ~690hp with the 4150's, which exceeded my 650hp goal, so I decided to stick with the smaller 4150's. The BSFC numbers were better with the 4150's too, so they seemed to be more efficient on my engine in the rpm range I was targeting.

I would get a prepped set of 4150's. A good carb guy is worth the few extra $$.
