Difficulties changing belt on 496 Mag
 

We changed the belt on my starboard motor no problem. Loosened up the adjustment screw, pushed the alternator in, and the belt went right on.

This was not the case with the port motor. Loosened up the adjustment screw and the alternator kept hitting something and would not go in enough to make it easy to put the belt on. We eventually got the belt on (found some inner strength), but it was not easy.

Any ideas as to what the alternator could be hitting on the port motor and why it's only doing it on that motor?
