Plugging outdrive holes/what to use?
 

I am putting nose cones on my bravo out drives with duel water pick ups.
I am concerned about corrosion /Hydramotive eng told me to plug 2 -3 of the upper holes by tapping and inserting hex plugs. the boat is kept in the water in summer although cleaned every 3 weeks I still am concerned about metal to metal corrosion,also I am plugging the lower holes before the nose cones go on.. what type of plugs should I use stainless/brass/plastic....

I'm going to do mine with stainless after getting wood jammed in there then clogging the flex hose thru the transom assy. , but then I trailer mine and it's not left in the water.
I would think plastic would be ideal if you can find some. No problem with dissimilar metals.

A transom water pick-up would be the best way to go IMHO -- Epoxy over ALL holes when you blend the nosecone. Otherwise, Thread a piece of aluminum rod, cut it off short and slot it so you can screw it into the holes you want to plug and have tapped to accept it, and blend over with the filler when installing the nosecone. --- Jer

Yea , because if you don't, every spring, if you live in the north, you will have to re fill the crack that the damn frozen water leaves.

If you really are concerned about corrosion, be forwarned that aluminum and stainless are dissimular metals. Maybe you could use some annodized an plugs.

I have used epoxy in the past with mixed results. The first time I used sea bond, and it didn't hold. This time I used the sticks of plumbers epoxy. It better hold this time.

The anodized stuff doesn't hold up very well in the water either. I've got one season on my drive shower with an fittings and they look pretty crappy. Most of the anodizing wore off when I had the boat in the water at LOTO for 10 days last summer.
