Mounting GPS next to compass?

I'm sure this isn't the ideal location but I'm limited for space on my dash ( like everyone ). Would installing a GPS in close proximity to the compass alter the compass readings? I know the GPS has digital readinds on it, but would like to have a backup system. I know others must have done the same thing, just wondering if it works. Thanks! Steve

My GPS is right next to my compass. I don't think it matters. I think what would effect a compass is something like a speaker that has a large magnet. I don't think there is anything magnetic about a GPS.
