496 ho seawater punp impeller???
 

I'm replacing a sea water pump impeller.
The impeller blades need to be folded to fit, do I bend them clockwise or anti-clockwise,

I put some white grease on mine and put them in. It does not matter how you put them in, because when you start the boat they will align themselves.
I have never had a problem with mine.
If you are going to be very particular, then put them in to turn the way the housing arrow shows. The arrow is on the front of the housing.

Just make sure you have them turning the correct way....

I use soap to lube them so they will slide in. they usually turn clock wise if your looking at it from the back . try to get the blades going in the right direction to start out with I use needle nose plyers to get it in.. its usually a dry start up until the water starts flowing.

Change the housing also.merc makes a kit now

When i you install the impeller make sure you turn it counter clockwise when you push it in this way they will be aligned. Like everyone else said use grease or soap or something to help lube until it picks up water. You will se some grooves down inside but it seems all the 496's have that.
