500EFI/Vortech fuel injection problem(s)

I got my Vortech all installed but now I am set up having problems.

First, the fuel pressure was +/- 10 lbs but seemed to settle down to +/- 2 after I primed the fuel filter a few times. Occaisonally, it is solid.

Is the +/- 2 acceptable or do I have some kind of air leak before the pump?

It is running very rich.

It misses and actually runs like a a pair of plug wires are switched. It will accellerate but it is very lazy. Since the plug wires aren't swapped, perhaps I switched the injector wires.

Is there anyway to check the position based on the red-green, red-blue wires?

HELP! I am running out of ideas.

Fountainclimber:

I replied to your PM. Bob Endress is Vortech's marine manager and chief troubleshooter. You can reach him at (805) 247 - 0226. If he's not there, they will give you his cell number.

Just a thought; when you set the base fuel pressure you disconnected the boost/vacuum reference line to the regulator? Did you reconnect it?

Those injectors are batch fired and switching one will make no difference.

Thanks Everyone,

I finally got a hold of Bob at Vortech. We independently decided that it was the plugs that weren't firing so I replaced them with some std AC's.

It ran great for about 30 seconds then I think the plugs began to foul. I took a look at them and about 1/3 of the insulator looked brown already. The rest was still white.

I have the fuel pressure set at 49 lbs with the vacuum line off of the regulator and it settles to 44 with it on. Bob said that was about right.

I'll give Bob an other call in the morning.

Thanks F

Just in case anyone else has a silimar problem, it turns out that I was clueless about sadjustiong the IAC system. One Bob Endress helped me get this set up, the Vortech system worked great. This was a minor correction but kept the whole thing from working.

In fact, I am still breaking it in but all I can say is WOW!

Good work! We want the full performance report when you get it broken in and propped accordingly.
