I've been thinking about you guys. You can't do much about the dogleg immediately after the blower, but the 180 degree turn and entry into the intercooler can be improved a lot. Since you are single engine, you have more room on the stbd side than is available on twins. articfriends is in this area already.

There are two ways to go. One is to turn the supercooler on its end and modify the in/out. The other way is to let me modify your intercoolers after the boating season is over. You will get before and after flow bench numbers to prove the difference in airflow.

Currently you are taking the 180 turn with about 12 in2 area. I can do it with almost 4 times the area, therefore 1/16th of the pressure loss. Cooling effectiveness should increase with a better distribution of air across the core.

its a 504, I have the height but forward clearance is the issue.

Tomcat,before this seaon is over i'm going to pressure check my boost in three places,discharge,after intercooler and at intake manifold after throttle blades. I will post results, i am curious how much the 180 degree bend drops the pressure. Also,how much presure drop will i see acrossed the mpi throttle blades,is there anything out there it can be replaced with? Thanks,Smitty

The owner phoned today and with better conditions and less weight he was able to run up to 97 mph. He's happy, but the pulleys arrived today. We'll see if we can pry the boat out of his hands for another test!

Had a week on Lake Mojave to try and solve my water pressure problem. First run with only the top 4 side inlets on each side of the drive plugged- At WOT max pressure was still 10 lbs. I then plugged all 8, max pressure increased to 15 lbs, still not enough as Whipple states minimum of 20 lbs, max of 30 lbs. I had already increased the nose inlets by 1/8" each so I called the rebuilder- Looks as though my only solution will be to go to a dual zone(not sure if that's the correct name) water pump and a seperate pick-up and sea-strainer for the intercooler. Another $3K. This thing will end up costing over $14K. At this point I'm not sure I would do it again if I had the opportunity to choose, or I definitely would do it differently.

The 2 boats I installed Whipples didn't have water pressure issues one hull was a step hull the other a pad bottom, what they did have in common was the Performance Bravo 1 Drive which has the built in low water pickup in the nose. Dustin had told me that with that lower unit there is not a water pressure problem, so maybe an option is swapping your lower unit for one of those.
Oh, and I happen to have one I'm selling for only $800. You would have almost nothing into the swap by the time you sell your lower unit...or under a grand if you keep yours as a spare...far less than $3K and a lot less complicated.
Certainly worth checking into...don't you think?

NO...and the delay is killing me. The owner moved the boat from his cottage on a small lake down to Toronto and Lake Ontario. We have not been able to get a test organized on a safe day. Lake Ontario is often rough. The shop owner is racing his F1 boat in St.Louis this weekend and I'm leaving for the LOTO shootout next Tuesday. So it's either Monday (unlikely) or the following week.

Chase, thanks for the info. I will certainly check into that. I assume it is complete with gears? Ratio? How many hours on it?Was it used in salt water? Is it a job that can be done at home or should I have it done by a pro? Any idea of the shipping charges? I am very interested in the unit so get back to me as soon as you can.
