Guys,

If a amp fails to drive speakers as the volume increases then it is usually a Ohm's law issue. Recalculate the ohm load back to the amp and make sure that your amp will deal with the number that you come up with. Not usually the ground or a wiring issue its just a resistance calculation depending on the wiring schematic that you've used.

Are all the speak's new or in good shape? I have seen bad speaks cause same problem when the voice coil grounds it self out on the inside of the magnet structure your ohm load goes below were the amp is happy. Just more food for thought and something else to check. Rag's

I would disconnect speakers from the amp and check impedance of each speaker. They should be close to 4 ohms each. One bad voicecoil could cause amp to shut down. Definitely needs at least 8 gauge for power and ground ran directly to battery. Cap wont help.

If speaker meters less than 4 ohms replace speaker. If problem persists with amp wired to battery, buy a new amp.

I would run 4 guage wires to battery so that when you add subwoofer amp, you wont need to rewire. Just a little upgrade path for the future.

I had a bad solder joint where the RCA jack solders onto the circuit board in the head unit. It was causing a lot of static in the speakers connected to my amps, and in some cases the amps would go out completely. Kind of a quirky problem, but maybe it's something to check.
