Eliminate Power Steering Cooler?

Anybody ever tryed eliminating the power steering cooler when using the stock Mercruiser steering system? It just doesn't seem like there would be that much heat generated that it would require a cooler. If I could eliminate the PS cooler it would make installing my engine oil cooler much easier.

Well Jon , do you think Merc would put it there if they could save a buck by not having it. I see what your saying and your right , it would be easier.
I mounted my oil cooler sideways under the distributor. Merc also makes a combo. oil/ps cooler that mounts in the original spot. A friend has one on his SBC 406 and it works great. I take it you already have the cooler :rolleyes:

Yea, already have the cooler. It's a takeoff from a 454 mag. I guess I'll leave the PS cooler on. Just looking for a clean way to install the oil cooler. Too many hoses.
