A/F ratio meter
Just curious , anybody use an A/F ratio meter to tune a carb? I'm making a spacer to go between my manifold and elbow to insert the probe in a "dry" location. Other indications show I'm going rich @ top end and I'm already down to 88 jets around on my Dominators with NO power valves :eek:

Most of the ones I have seen for cars they put the sensor in the collector area.That would be about 27 inches from the head flange.Not sure on the boats how accurate it would be?

You MUST have one if you are serious about tuning for power. DON'T I repeat DON'T get those kind that tap into the O2 wire or you will just be reading jibbersh. Actually an EGT can greatly help too.

The Innovate meters work very well, and are very cost affective.

OK, what are the a/f ratios you going for? I have mine at 13.5 @ idle, 12.8 @ 2200rpm(5 inches of vaccum), 12.3 @ 2lbs of boost, 11.4 @ 9lbs of boost, & max of 11.2 @ 11lbs of boost. I have not done a plug check on a max boost, & RPM run yet but 11.2 must be a little rich since only after one of those runs does the transom get black,

I think it is 12.2 at HP peak and 11.8 at TQ peak for peak numbers.

Mopower, what manifolds are you making that spacer to fit. It's a GREAT idea. Need to make more!! hint, hint!

IMCO Powerflows :cool: Last night a friend of mine said the same thing. He was wondering if it would fit his Gils. They have a squarer bolt pattern :( . Another friend has Eddie Marines and I know they are different because I made three inch spacers for him to get his elbow up high enough so the water would run down to his pipes |

Love the spacer plates, Great Idea. Check out www.ecm-co.com They sell AFM w/Gage. My take on this is since you would need 4 gages to monitor AFR while on the water(take up alot of space), I would set the gage up like a shop tach so you could switch the sensor to each exhaust manifold and dial in your carbs. Then i would replace and run with the twin pyrometer gages from Livorsi located in the same positon. This would reduce from 4 gages to 2. Also since exhaust temp is dependent on AFR( temp increases as engine goes lean and temp decreases as engine rich ins up. So any Major change in exhaust temp also means a change in your AFR Good Luck, Please correct me if I am wrong Jack |
