How to make a dockside air-conditioner?
 

While at Lake Cumberland last week I notice a family had hooked up a small window air-conditioner to cool his cuddy down on his boat for an overnighter...He put a pan under it and put a sleeping bag around it and the cuddy entrence. I never really thought of this but after seeing it I wondered why I didn't think of it. Has anyone else done this or thought of this? I was wondering how he converted the power to shore power? I don't have any experence with using shorepower so Im probally missing something here. My wife can't stand sleeping in a hot room so we hardly do any over-nighting with our boat other than spring or fall. Can you convert a standard household air-conditioner that runs on household current to run on shore-power? Ive seen 5500 btu air-conditioners new for around $75 and they probally don't weigh more than 20 pounds or so don't take up much room either.....So if anyone has done anything like this drop a line and let me know. My wife was really interested in how they hooked everything up.....

We have several people around here that plug window units into their shore power. It's a little tacky looking, but works great. Just add shore power to your boat (maybe $200 in parts??).

From the dockside 30AMP plug-

get a 30AMP to 125V adapter -female ( at boatersworld/ boat US )

an extention cord and away you go-

Boatersworld / Boat US also carry a carry on AC units that fit over your cabin hatch that look alot better. ( $900 or so new) or you can try the swap shop here.

I use a Cruise-Aire (drop in hatch style) , It works great and is quiet
