This would be the first 1998 Chevy ever built to have this wire not be White. I have wired a few thousand of these things at my shop for customers, Chevy ALWAYS uses a White wire on these year models. Odd.

This year model truck does not have the prewired harness like mentioned. They didn't start that until 1999. The only thing this truck came set up with is the Blue and Orange wire already run down the frame to the back. They will be taped to the firewall in the engine compartment.

I agree with Buck, I work for GM, the those years trucks are prewired and taped inside the frame at thr rear and firewall up front, keep looking

As of last night the wiring is done and I get all the right signals from the brake controller and voltages at the correct pins in the receptacle. Never found the blue or orange wires at either end. The Prodigy brake controller also recommended a 10g wire for the brake signal so that's what I installed along with a 10g ground that terminates in common at the firewall as well as the bed sheetmetal. The wiring kit that I bought also had these VERY COOL heat shrink crimp connectors. I'd like to find a direct source for those.

Now I can go pick up my new/old Cigarette and get to the lake and out from under my truck.

The Orange and Blue wires are taped up inside the frame about 2-3' forward from the bumper. Trust me, they are there.
