One drive trims faster than the other ???

I didn't have this problem until i removed the drive in question to replace the gimble bearing. Now when i use the single trim button to trim both drives, the one that i just had off is trimming slower in both going up and down.

I do not see any leaks and i checked the fluid in the pump and it is full. I didn't touch the pump at all.

any ideas ?? Would fluid be leaking if the rams are going bad ??

Rick, i dont think so. i didn't touch the hydrolic system of the rams, just pulled the drive and reinstalled it when i was done with the gimble bearing and bellows.

What was the problem with Jays rams? where they leaking? how did he know he needed new ones?

His were leaking down,

after inspection we found that he must have gotten water in the system from bad seals, and over the PA winter, the housings cracked.

can you pull up on the drives and get them to move???(PULL HARD)...there is a rebuild kit...but most of the time it just needs a fidy cent o-ring...cake job.

I'll check tonight. thanks Joe.

Where is the O-ring located if needed to be replaced ?

I've heard it sug here to run a heavier gauge wire to the slow one, haven't tried it yet

I've heard that different weight oils will make them trim at a different speed.

Re: One drive trims faster than the other ???

Thanks for the info.

It's just strange that this just started to happen after i pulled the drive and then re-installed the drive. How do i know if the Rams need to be rebuilt vs. the pump? will the Rams physically leak fluid past the seals ?

inside on the end of the ram....ya put the trim limit spacer in the right way?

Re: One drive trims faster than the other ???

Is it possiable to tighten up trim ram bolts(or some other) to tight and cause drag/friction? just a thought.

audacity 07-01-2004 12:03 PM

Re: One drive trims faster than the other ???

too tight?no...they are shouldered....

we shim everything VERY tight...a few extra #'s of force means nothing to something that can move thousands.

Are you talking about the spacer on the inside of the gimble ring opposite side of where the limit switch screws on ? There is one on each side ?

If so, when i pulled everything to replace the gimble bearing the spacers stayed on the insides of the ring. i didn't remove them. just put it all back the way it came out.

the celery sticks

HiPerf2000 07-01-2004 12:53 PM

Re: One drive trims faster than the other ???

oh those celery sticks where the pin goes through. I actually didn't touch that either. i dont even remember seeing it. That side drive housing is original....did they have the oblonged rear pin holes in 1996 ? If so the celery stick was stuck in there and didn't fall out when i pulled the drive.

Re: One drive trims faster than the other ???

My bravos are doing the same thing ...also to add to the confusion the Starboard drive indicator sticks after the #3-4 indication ...so after a while I have NO clue where the drives are ...VERY frustrating ... I did clean the starboard indicator tube and it helped for a while ....I plan on trying it again and lubing the tube with Grease ....

Re: One drive trims faster than the other ???

Are the drive indicators tightend down to the ram? Mine were lose once and caused the same thing, with the pressure pushing in as the drive went up, it would slip a little to make it look like it was going slower.
