Water on the plugs?
 

Well it looks as if I took in some water through the above water exaust and into the cylinders the other day. I tried to start the boat the next day and it made a pretty bad noise and locked up. I thought it wat the starter at first but it seems to be fine. I took out the back two plugs and sure enough both were wet with water. I pulled all 8, but she still won't turn over. The guy at the shop said more than likley the motor is fine but the starter may have fried when the motor locked up with water. He stated this is pretty comon and has yet to see one that wouldn't start after it was broke free. Anyone else had this happen?? If so how did it turn out??? Hoping I'm not in for new power!!!

hydro lock is a deadly thing. Where in MI are you? It sounds like the water came from inside thru a crack or bad gasket. If it was this wet you can fill it with diesel and absorb the water plus keep some oil from the fuel. You will most likely have to pull it and see what is up.

It can also enter through bad exhaust manifolds.
Hydraulic lock up on a supercharged engine is usually terminal.

My flappers inside the tips are gone so thats where we think the water came in.

I bent a connecting rod trying to start a hydrolocked motor. The motor ran with a strange vibration for about a month and then the rod let loose and tore everything up. I hope this wasn't a high torque starter and I hope you had great quality forged rods.

did it take in the water when running or after shut off? Normally the starter dosn't have enough torque to hurt the motor but if it hydrolocked from reversion while running, than =rods are about $75.00 ea.

The water should have entered after the motor was turned off. She was running fine with no indication of any problems. So I'm hoping that with that in mind I may be o.k.??? Were going to pull the covers tonight and check the valves and see if we can't roll it over manually 1st before trying the starter again with the plugs out. Killer is we were just taling about moving up but this may put a stop to that with the wife!
