Dyno-- what about an istaller/removal tool? In a prior life when I was building my own motors, I got friendly with a couple of Tool and Die Makers. They'd mike my crank snout, make a keyway to insert in the keyway slot and ever so slightly hone out the balancer so it was still a relatively tight fit, but you didn't need the force of the world to get it on--or off. They did the same thing to my driveshafts/halfshafts. You can't go crazy, but a winter project that makes life a lot easier during the summer.Again, don't go crazy if you do this. Plus Loctite the bolt on the front of the crank and check it occaisonally if your not using it to adjust valves, etc. Hope you're running for the weekend. Sounds like you aged a few years this week!--Lou

Dyno- Many of the drag racers on this site know that you have to be careful with those harmonic balancers. It's easy to break the elastomer bond between the inner and outter rings. If you're lucky, you'll suddenly find that your timing marks are way off. If you're unlucky, they have been known to disintegrate (not good in a boat out on the water). A lot of race boats have boilerplate under the motors in case a motor grenades. Scary thought, ain't it?--Lou

I put a little oil on the snout/threads and then just pull it on with the center bolt. Sometimes I need to get a longer bolt to get it started.

CAREFUL!!!!!!!

I have pulled the threads out of the crank(on a small block) using this method.
