Re: now wonder my boat is a pig.

the pro-billet has the ability to swap stop bushings also which give you different advance amounts depending upon what kind of base timing your engine needs. a variety of spring combinations on those little posts will provide you with the rate of advance...

i think it'll make at least a "little" bit of difference for ya ;)

If you do a search at martelbros.com you can find a whole lot of MSD technical literature... or you used to be able to anyway.. diagrams, etc etc etc. actually come to think of it i believe MSD has all of the technical literature for the most part, on their website now...

JUST ONCE - you will be a happy man soon. The guy I purchased my first boat from had the timing all screwed up. When I figured it out, the boat gained about 8 MPH and a bunch of RPM. It truely felt like a different engine had been installed.

Got my stuff today from MSD, want to get it done so I pulled the dist. on my lunch hour and got it apart on my desk in the office. Do you guys know whitch stop bushing will give me about 34 deg. WOT, if set a@ 8 deg. base.

Re: now wonder my boat is a pig.

red = 28 degrees
silver = 25
blue = 21
blk = 18 + your intial timing = your total degrees

Re: now wonder my boat is a pig.

Each of the bushings sets a different max advance. Depending on what springs you run there is already some advance at the RPM you set the static timing at (typically 3-4 degrees). The best way to set total advance is to set the timing at 4000 rpm (or a rpm higher than the max advance for the springs selected) and forget the static setting.

Personally I would set it for more initial advance for smother idle.
I run mine at 14 deg. initial ---- 34 total.

On my street car and race car I lock out the dist at total advance . It has better throttle response and Idles alot better.I just hook up the retard for the cranking part.

Re: now wonder my boat is a pig.

With running the timing at 8. total would make the exhaust temp real high.

I have seen it turn headers on cars red hot :eek:

Your not going to believe the difference in power when you get it set :D
