Dick,
I can't see a roller cam making that much of a difference. While the lobe profiles of a roller are a bit better than a flat tappet, I always thought that main advantage is to be able to run more spring pressure ( when neede with a radical profile ) without wiping out the cam.

The BIG advantage to a roller is that the ramp to opening and closing is much steeper. It's almost like going full open instead of gradually on a flat tappet cam. This allows monster torque and horsepower(because you can have enough high lift time without a lot of overlap loss) instead of having to choose one or the other.My .02
