Exhaust resonators
 

I recently repowered my 23 foot Checkmate with a new Mercrusier 496 HO. The engine came supplied with exhaust resonators which the manufacturer 'strongly recomends' using in the through transom exahust to prevent water intrusion. Does anyone have any experience here? My installation uses stainless steel exahust pipes rather than rubber hose and I don't see anyway to utilize the resonators. What's the risk?
