How old are the springs? Have you just tried replacing them and the detent balls? Do you have springs on the throttle cable at the carb(s) - maybe they have too much tension?

Try peeling the rubber back where the controls go through the mount plate, I read somewhere that there is a alen screw with a nylon tensioner on it. It can be adjusted or the nylon is just worn out. i doubt is worn out with it being a 04 boat. Probably just needs adjustment.

Hey Paul, wife was out of town on trip for couple weeks, I typically stay close to home when shes away, dogs 14. I went to get new rub rail last Friday up at Winnipasaukee and no way to get home in pick up. I am taking boat up there in 2 weeks and will throw inside boat for ride home.

Hey Sonic, I tend to keep mine pushed all the way forward, and they don't have much of a chance to move.

Waves are my only reason to move them from that position, and having my hand there comes in pretty handy. :)

Brian

P.S. those springs are just slowing you down... off with them!
