cam swap?
 

If I get a set of retro roller liffters can I put a Gen VI cam out of a 502 in a Gen V 454? or did the brain trust at GM change the cam itself? Thanks Rag's

GEN V AND GEN VI CAMS WILL INTERCHANGE THE ONLY THING THAT WILL CHANGE IS THE TIMING COVER BOLT PATTERN WHICH YOU ARE PROBABLY NOT WORRIED ABOUT I WOULD USE RETRO FIT LIFTERS WITH A LINK BAR NOT THE STOCK ONES WITH THE RETAINING PLATES. GOOD LUCK LAZ MESA WWW.MESABALANCING.COM

The cam timing gear bolt pattern on the GenVI cam is smaller than the GenV, so you will have to use a GenVI timing gear & chain set. Don't forget that you will also need to use the GenVI cam retainer plate as well. This will bolt onto the front of your motor over the snout of the cam, into the threaded holes that are already in your GenV block.
Your timing cover should fit fine over the timing chain set.
The retro "link bar" roller lifters are your only choice because the GenVI block is machined differently to accept the GenVI design roller lifter & retainer plates.

Joe, know I did not but the boat will go to Rays some time next week to have th motor pulled so I am trying to way my options. If I keep the long block I have now it will get a new cam perferably a roller. I was thinking either a 454 - 502 HO cam or a HP500 cam.
