Re: 502 Question

That depends on how you drive it and how you maintain it. Somewhere between 50 and 1000.

That's a loaded question. I think Griff summed it up :D

Have a leak down test done one the motor. will tell you everything.

P.S. i know a guy in a 1988 40 Silverton that has 2000 hours on his original 502's.

Re: 502 Question

Get a leakdown and a Dyno run done on the engines. Still there are no for sures on used engines. But 600 hours is very high. Just price it out planning on freshening up the engines before they blow. This should run around $3,000 per engine vs. 10,000 each if you blow one and screw the blocks up.

Re: 502 Question

TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO BUILDS AND WARRANTIES THESE ENGINES WHEN THESE ENGINES SHOW UP HERE WITH 600 TO 650 HRS THEY ARE READY FOR MAJOR REPAIR THE ENTIRE VALVE TRAIN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED PISTONS BRGS THE ENTIRE PACKAGE NEEDS TO BE GONE THROUGH I HAVE SEEN THEM GO 1000 HRS WITH JUST THE VALVE TRAIN REWORKED.HOPE THAT HELPS YOU OUT. LAZ MESA WWW.MESABALANCING.COM
PS THESE ENGINES MECHANICALLY ARE NOT SUPER EXPENSIVE TO REBUILD.
