Re: Exhaust for supercharged motors
Cmi elbow tops will be a good choice.

Re: Exhaust for supercharged motors
I'm using lightning headers w/silent choice option-540-9 psi boost, approx 700-750 hp. The headers really didn't give it 400-600 rpm's like they claimed so i imagine the cmi's may be better but it works,Smitty

Re: Exhaust for supercharged motors
CMI elbow tops don't flow better than Lightning headers. What I noticed after installing Lightning headers on a Whippled 454 mag was no increase in rpm's...but a loss on boost pressure 2 psi to be exact...from 7 to 5, yet no decrease in speed. Put a smaller pulley on to get back to 7psi and got the resulant speed increase, around 40-50hp estimate. So even tho Whipple says there is no benefit from switching out the stock exhaust because the supercharger will force it out anyway, I saw that freeing up the exhaust will result in the engine working easier and thus will make more power.

Re: Exhaust for supercharged motors
CMI AND OTHER TUBE TYPE EXHAUST ARE THE MOST ATTRACTIVE LOOKING HANDS DOWN BUT FOR LONG LIFE EXPECTANCY I LOOK AT STAINLESS MARINE DOMINATORS I DON'T KNOW OF ANY OTHER EXHAUST THAT WILL OUT LAST THEM AND I HAVE DONE BACK TO BACK TEST ON THE DYNO WITH EVEN LONG TUBE CUSTOMS AND THE POWER IS RIGHT THEIR I HAVE FOUND THAT THE 4.5 TAILPIPES HAVE MADE MORE POWER AND TORQUE ON EVERYTHING WE BUILD UP TO 1100HP. I BELIEVE JERRY OFFERS A 3 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ALSO DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THAT I'M NOT SURE IF THATS THE RIGHT WARRANTY CALL STAINLESS MARINE FOR THEIR WARRANTY THEY NORMALLY HAVE THEM ON THE SHELF. HOPE TO SHINE SOME LIGHT FOR YOU LAZ MESA WWW.MESABALANCING.COM

Re: Exhaust for supercharged motors
Too Old and Mesa Balancing both make good points. I've been running the E top race setup on my blown 572's with no complaints. Also running CMI's switchable mufflers though the local authorities tell me their instruments say I'm slightly illegal in New York State with the mufflers on. I don't have the CMI info in front of me, but when I got mine, they had a special switchable muffler for big inch, blower applications. As I recall, the flappers, pivots etc were stainless. For what it's worth.--Lou

Re: Exhaust for supercharged motors
Gil Offshore exhaust has given me outstanding durability.
Tubular exhaust has a tendancy to crack on the internal pipe at the exhaust flange. Water leaks into the supercharged engine and a catastrophe occurs. Points to consider....Hot exhaust, cool water in the pipes, the buzz of the engine vibrations, the weight of the header fully charged with water is a recipe for hydro-lock. Expensive and disheartening when it occurs. |
