Gil exhaust

I just got done putting a new set of heads on my stbd motor and was about to put the exhaust back on and noticed some pitting and corrosion in the #8 hole in the exhaust manifold. Pressure tested it and sure enough water was entering the exhaust flow about 1 inch from where the manifold meets the head. So the question is, can this be welded to get me through the season? I think no but I'm not always right. I figure I might as well replace them now. Does anyone know if the IMCO powerflow has the same dimentions as the Gil? The tricky part is I have custom Stainless Marine dry tailpipes that exit the transom higher than stock so I need to keep the tailpipes. Or if anyone knows of a good set of Gil small block manifolds, any info would be appriciated.
Thanks
Dave

To use the tailpipes, you will have to use Gil manifolds. All brands have different bolt patterns. As far as welding???? Maybe, but its definately just a band aid.

I had an exterior hole on a set that I bought. I had it welded and refinished. It looks and performs perfect. I would call Gil, I've heard they will repair them. Or maybe they can give you a tip on how to make the best repair.
Some Gils have a freeze plug type plug on the outside. It sounds like your hole is right behind that plug. For a complete repair the plug may have to be removed and welded from the inside as well.

Thanks guys, I will call Gil on monday. I didn't think of the freeze plug thing. If I can't get them fixed or find a set (they don't advertise them to be sold as new anymore) maybe I'll get custom dry CMI's made, that way I can really piss off the old folks.

I'm just kidding about intentionally pissing people off.

Are the shorty headers available for small blocks?
