leaking oil filter - volvo/innovation 600

Have the volvo 600 and about 80psi oil pressure when running and filter leaks badly at the seal. Replaced filter and still leaks any suggestions?

According to the owners manual for a 600, normal operating oil pressure should be between 21 and 71 psi. So 80 is high, especially if this is during cruising after warm up. On my turbo cars there is a pressure relief valve which controls pressure...not sure on this GM engine, I'd call Innovation.

may sound dumb, but when you swapped out the old filter, did the "O" ring come off as well with the filter? If that fell off the filter and stuck to the block, this will create a bad oil leak when the new filter is installed.

What are you running for oil? What ever it is I would drop down a notch in viscosity. What oil did innovation recommend? You may also consider trying a baldwin b1441 oil filter with the internal bypass.

Aside from those thoughts, I would look closely at the sealing surface of the filter mount to check for burrs or low spots.

Glad you got her running. Is it what you had hoped?

Mercruzer - Running Mobil One 15w50 (the recommended oil), I see 60-70 when cold, and 45-60 when hot. If I run them really hard, it may fall to just above 40. I have never seen 80! No real difference in readings between Fram HP4's, Fram PH13's, Mercury (no P/N), or (now) Mobil One M1-302 filters. Check with Tom at Innovation to see if there is an adjustment on the pump. It's a Mellings high-volume pump in these engines.

The leak sounds like a hardware problem. I know that's a busy area of the engine withe the fuel cooling/recirculation system in the way, but can you see anything when the engine's idling? Could be some damage to the area where the o-ring seals. It's pretty surprising, because these engines are dyno-run for over an hour before shipping.
