Audio Guys. . .Help Please
I recently installed a speakers and a decent amp in my new 28. I have a Panasonic 8 disc changer that I would like to use, but am not sure of its compatibility with different receivers. The changer is a CX-DP801 EUC. I am interested in a receiver with the optional wired remote that fits a 2-1/8" gauge opening.
I had a Clarion M5275 that I liked very much, but it needs repair. Any of you guys that deal in electronics have any recommendations for a receiver that will work or who can repair my Clarion? Will the Clarion work with the Panasonic cd changer? Please email info and pricing to [email protected] Thank you, Kirk |

Clarion work with the Panasonic cd changer
I would think so, as all recievers go to a channel in the 80's. I think it is 87.something? |
Re: Audio Guys. . .Help Please
The only way that the Panasonic will work with any other changer is if you have a FM modulated unit. To get that repaired try United Radio in Syracuse NY. They are the authorized service center and give a one year warrantee on their repairs. Unfortunatly Clarion has changed their remotes and they no longer fit in a guage opening.

Re: Audio Guys. . .Help Please
CD chnagers can be controlled by head units 2 ways:
1) via FM modulator as in the last post. You will need to get a FM modulator for THAT cd changer. Then you simply tune the radio of any head unit to the frequncy given off by the modulator (takes the Cd changer output signal and coverts it to a low strength FM broadcast, which your head unit tuner then picks up just like a radio station.( Cool because other boats (have to be VERY close, like rafted up) can then tune their radios to your CD changer freq and you can have a real concert hall like effect :) ) They have to very close for this to work. 2) via direct control. I have never heard of different brand head units and Cd changers working together (except for a few rare instances). If you have a head unit that is the same brand as the chnager, you will need the following info: 1) Is it the same brand? 2) Does the head unit have changer control capability? 3) Does it support the CD changer you own (for examle, if its a real old chnager, a new haed unit, of the same brand, with changer control, might not work with it. Option 2 is better, much less THD and improved frequency response and less OSC degradation. Either will be fine though. I would call a Panasonic dealer (a good one) and ask them for their advice. |
Re: Audio Guys. . .Help Please
I now have gauge opening remotes with a rectangular front that is designed to control a cabin mounted Pioneer radio. MBQUart offers round guage opening remote to control their radio. I always suggest a direct connect cd changer and not rf modulated changer.

Re: Audio Guys. . .Help Please
Thanks guys, I'll try United first and just buy a clarion changer. I dont want the modulator, I think you get much better sound with a direct wire unit.
Thanks again for the input! |
Re: Audio Guys. . .Help Please
Pantera just make sure you get the correct changer. I can not remember the different type of cables that they used but they DID change cables back a few years ago so you NEED to make sure you get the correct changer.
I think they were called C-net and E-net cables Jon |
Re: Audio Guys. . .Help Please
I Think You Are Wasting Your Time And Money With A Changer, Why Not Buy A Decent Deck That Has Mp3 Capability? You Can Put 12 Hours Of Music On One Disc. I Would Also Look In To Sattelite Radio. Once You Have It In Your Boat You Will Probably Never Use Another Cd Again. Xm Is One Of The Best Things I Ever Purchased For My Boat And I Would Recommend It To Everyone. Another Cool Thing About It Is When You Are Tied Up To Your Friends You Can Listen To The Same Stations And Keep The Volume Low Enough To Talk Over It And Still Be Able To Here It From Boat To Boat. Alpine Has A Deck With The Tuner Built In Now For Under 300.00 With Mp3 Capability. I Guarantee You'll Spend More Than That For A Repair On An Old Clarion Deck And A Cd Changer.
