1994 350 Magnum durability
What kind of track record do the older 350 Mags have? I have a buddy with a set in a wellcraft Nova, they have 635 Hours on the clock and have never had any problems. He is selling the boat and Im considering buying it but im concerened about the high hours. Any thoughts will be much appreciated Thanks.

Re: 1994 350 Magnum durability
I have an '88 350 MAG with over 450 hours on it. The previous owners saved all repair receipts. As far as I can tell the bottom end had never been touched. The heads had been worked on only because the water pump impeller broke a couple times severely over heating the engine.
In the four years I've owned it I haven't had any trouble. Probably because I keep up with replacing old high time components before they break. As for your friends 350, I'd start with a simple compression check and go from there. If the compression is good and even from cylinder to cylinder and I dosen't burn oil and the oil pressuer is good then I'd say it's still ok. It just may not have the full power it once had. |

Re: 1994 350 Magnum durability
It is a great engine but if the valve springs are original they are long past due for changing. I have been able to compress them with my fingers at 500 hours. The rings are probably near the end of their life as well. With new rings, springs, bearings and oil pump these motors will be new again.
