Using trailer switch to trim up?
 

I can get 2 more mph when trimming up past the normal trim limit with the trailer switch. A good friend told me that I should not use the trailer option as it is hard on the outdrive or some of it's parts. Any advice from you pros?
I also read in a thread that a rooster tail with a Bravo 1 means it is trimmed up too far. I loose speed if I trim it down from the big rooster tail. Advice?

your putting your drive in a bad strain when running in trailer posistion ....However ...there are adjustments to drive limits and it possible those limits need to be adjusted ...

If you are still picking up speed when on the trailer button, your trim-limit sender needs to be adjusted.

limit switch should stop the drive with at least an inch of remaining engagement in the side fences of the gimbal, usually more. Do not adjust the switch to allow more trim angle than that, and do not use a setting higher than that for operation under power.

And I am amazed you are still picking up speed beyond the rooster tail. Are you using a GPS to read speed? If you are using the drive pitot, it can read weird things at strange trim angles and you may not be gettin what you think.

Are you getting a lot more RPM past normal trim? Maybe your prop pitch needs to be adjusted to get more into the power band. Use a GPS and plot your speed to RPM. Check with Houston Prop or Throttle Up with your results. What type of engine, any mods?

Did not use a GPS for this exact question, but I will tonight. I used it a week ago and it said my Speedo was almost exact above 40mph. I also did not notice a big difference in GPS or Speedo when trimmed up that far.
When I do trim up with the trailer option you can feel a couple mph gain like it is freeing up. This is a deep 1999 Excalibur 23, open bow.
The extra trim usually causes some chime walk, which is calmed down by slightly lowering the trim tabs.


I am looking for a White Trim tab indicator if anyone knows where to get one reasonable. Also looking for a 4 Blade 22 pitch for the Bravo 1.

I think I would start with checking to make sure that the trim limit pin is in the forward position if you are running a Bravo one or two if not you need to correct it .Then I would trim up the drive till it stops with the trim up switch and measure the distance between the center of the two anchor bolts that hold down one ram.This should measure 21 3/4 if not you correct it.The trim limit switch is the one one the port side of your drive.

Its the round thing with wires going to it on the Port side

Would those spacers on the end of the trim cylinders be in the wrong position?
