Stereo Amp??
 

OK stereo guru's: My Sony amp has the overcurrent protection light on and the amp will not produce any sound. The fuse for the amp is of the correct rating and is not blown. Any ideas on what causes this over current condition? Any way to fix this problem? Thanks

First take the speaker leads out and check for a short. More then likely you will find one. Take your OHM meter and put it accross both leads and it should read 4 ohms. If you get much lower then you have a short (assuming you do not have more then one speaker on the amp channel) If you do then you will see either 2ohms or 8 ohms, depending on how it is wired. If this all checks out ok then your amp is bad. If not then you have to look at the wire and speaker. Go directly to the back of the speaker and test across the terminals. This should show as aprox 4 ohms. If this is ok then the problem is in the wire. If this is bad then the speaker is bad. Should not take you more then 10 min to test it all.
