Extension Boxes with a Pad Bottom, Notch Transom, but NO steps
Hello,
I have been searching around the OSO archives trying to get info concerning pads, notches and extension boxes.
I have read so many threads, that I am getting dizzy.
I converting my TRS drive boat over to Bravos (filling the transom holes).

My 1984 Excalibur 31' has the same bottom as the early Fountain Executioners: pad bottom (pretty flat) and a notched transom. (see photo)

The TRS drives were very deep to begin with. Leaving the engines at the same height will move my prop height up 2.5 inches. My 'X" dimension is 18.25" X 34.5". 18.25 is measured from the v portion directly in front of the prop, not the notch.

I am considering adding extension boxes. I realize that using a neutral box will lower my prop height back down 1 inch (deeper).

Two things I would like to improve, by adding the boxes; planing and leveraging of the bow. With the TRS (running 3 blade mirage) the boat was slow to plane and it would pin the bow at speed.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Planing will improve dramatically. The boat will also behave as if it was 1' longer. You may even be money ahead by using the boxes. Stellings makes a box that will covert the TRS cut to the bravo drive. You have no gell work to do. That alone would pay for the box. If you want to go higher with the x-dim. Then use a shortened lower unit. Done!

Transom wood rotted , replacing it, reshooting the imron on the back of the boat, so new cut outs any way you look at it.
Don't want to mess with (TRS to Bravo) adapters if not needed.
