Salt water is much more bouyant than fresh. Any scuba diver will tell you the same. I never dove in fresh water but thats what I was told upon certification.

It is not your imagination. It is definatly more boyant. Most people say that they pick up 2-3 mph in the salt

Jonas, don't you normally run in salt water? I assumed you run Pacific.

I have heard the same and my boat seems to respond better in salt water as well. But still I would like it to be scientifically explained to me why this is.

Ok Roby ... here is the scientific explaination.... Salt water is denser... since it has salt in solution. Since your boat displaces the same weight in water... the heavier the water is per cubic foot ... the less volumn of water needs to be displaced for your boat to float... Hence.... you boat sits higher in the water. Also... salt water being denser... your props have more "bite" (it's harder to push the heavier water out of the way)... That is why the Mormons in Utah float like corks on top of the Great Salt Lake... which at it's saltiest is five times saltier than the ocean. ( burns your butt hole too ) :D

I noticed a couple weeks ago when I had my 302 in fresh water for the first time that I seemed to take longer to get on a plane.
