Yet another trailer brake thread....
I've got an 03 Myco with 2 5200 lb axles, the forward axle with kodiak discs, surge activated, GM calipers.
a while back i had problems with sticking brakes, did some homework, ditched the solenoid which was in series and made a mechanical lockout when needed for backing, hardly ever use it cause usually when I'm backing, it's down a ramp. Well, just did a 7 mile run to top off at the pumps ($40-50 towards other fluids) and the brakes were sticking still. I'll tear into it soon, must be either stuck caliper or mt pins, no?? |
Re: Yet another trailer brake thread....
Update- in case it helps someone else...
I spoke with kodiak, seeing as both brakes are sticking, it's more likely something is wrong with tyhe master cylinder not releasing pressure. I can feel the tongue telescoping so I don't think it's jammed, will dig further soon. Luckily I don't need the trailer for a few weeks (on a covered lift) |
Re: Yet another trailer brake thread....
Cat, at one time several year ago my master cylinder went dry :( NOt sure how, but it did.
Well I never gave it any more thought once I had them checked and bleed. They came up with no leaks. Well the folowing month I had the same thing happen as you. What I found was that inside the master it had started to rust. The bleed hole on the piston was closed. You could see the area and I used a small nail to clean the hole. Once I cleaned the build up out you could see the fluid transfer fine. May want to look at that. |
