Well i believe part of your problem is that your 9375 does not have power valve circut according to Holley web site. Pull the power valve out and if there are no small holes directly behind where the power valve threads are they don't work, you can have them drilled. The 8896 is not a power valve dominator series either unless modified. The 8082 is a power valve 1050 carb.

JS,
This was actually done already. Way back I sent it to Bruce Dudley and he reworked it. If I remember right he said that the carb was set up for a blower motor , all I know is it was right on when I got it back.
I originally purchased it new from Jegs.
I did talk to Nickerson, it just parting with the money it's almost the cost of the orginal carb. For that it better be right on.

Nickerson isn't cheap, but he is the best. When you get your carb back it will be very close to perfect, and if it needs a tweak it will be something simple that you can do with screw in air bleeds. Dean gets my vote! Going to a smaller carb would help, but it will also cost you HP especially on top end.

do you have advance springs in your distributer?.from what your saying it sounds like they could be getting real week and staying open keeping the motor in advance.just a thought it easy to check just put a timming lite on it.

Krypto,
Good thought but I've got the distributor locked down. It will most likely end up at Nickerson's.

I sent Nickerson's the carb from my ZZ502/502. It came back just about bolt on perfect. Minor float adjustment and idle stop screw adjustment was all it needed.

They provide you with a spec sheet to send in with the carb. There's about 35 or 40 questions on their sheet regarding engine specs, boat specs, altitude where you boat, etc. Plus, if you call them with questions after you get the carb back, you get answers. Great outfit!

I certainly agree that Nickerson is amazing but I would research and search for any possible avenues, like a vaccuum leak of some sort that may cause this issue. Think of it like this for the cost of the upgrade you are making $50-$100/hour to work on your own boat, if you fix it without the upgrade. Any chance that you throttle blades are sticking open, I had one with the same symptoms you are describing and the blades were barely touching the bores, also you can wrap the secondary spring tighter with one more round, to make sure they aren't hanging open. Unhook your throttle linkage and make sure it is very smooth all the way through.
