Whats A Good Rpm Range?

i Recently Got My Carb Rebuilt And My Boat Runs Good Now. My Question Is What Is The Normal Rpm Range For A 454 Mag Wot? She Turns About 4200 At Normal Trim, But When I Trim It Up More She Turns Around 4800 And Gains About 10 Mph. I Do Not Have Trim Tabs So When I Trim Up On The Drive She Starts To Bounce. How Can I Get 4800 Rpms With No Bouce? Maybe A Carb Adjustment? Would Trim Tabs Be Worth A Try?

Your motor should run in the 5000 rpm range. Sounds like you need a smaller prop to get more rpms and that would also alow you to use less trim cutting down on the bouncing. Good Luck

Oh, by the way a boat your size will not benefit any from trim tabs for running to get max speed.

depending on yr Magnum' operating range is 446-5200 or 48-5200. I think prop is right direction even same size but different design might be more stable.
What size boat/prop etc...?

Re: Whats A Good Rpm Range?

If you ran a bravo 1 four blade 24 pitch prop you would get a nice stable ride, If you can turn it at 5000 rpm you would be closing in on high 60's depending on your slip. That motor should have no problems with 5000 to 5200 rpm all day long. I'm not sure about the bouncing but if you are running a three blade now a four blade is going to have alot more bite and should eliminate some of that.

Just a reminder in case you are new to boats...you need to add trim as you speed up. What is perfect and "no bounce" at 60 will porpose like he-- at 35mph.

Is it a 240 or a 24 Outlaw???

To get rid of the porpoising, go to a 4blade Bravo 1 prop. You will loose a little on the top end. Best top end prop is most likely a 23" mirage plus.
