Cleaning marine growth from outdrive?

Man, I gotta get a lift. TRS drive looks like a Wookie. Completely encrusted, top & bottom. Every square in. covered in thick growth. NEVER believe what they say about the "spray can" type anti-fouling. It only acts as a primer for barnacles.

That said...what is the best way to clean the drive? Pressure washer? Media blasting? Acid? Plain ole' elbow grease?

Thanks in advance,

On-Off is great--avail at West Marine--almost spray on/rinse off

Also--beware of sudden barnacle growth--could be precursor to electrolysis problem. Electrolysis (DC voltage leak/poor bonding system/bad dockside svce) seems to show up along with fast barnacle growth.

1) pressure wash.
2) On and Off (best applied with a bottle brush)
3) pressure wash (don't let that on and off spray back on you - it will kill your clothes).
4) repeat.

Get a polarity and ground tester to check your dock's wiring. Also check your internal outlets when you are plugged in, and ask your dock neighbors if they mind if you test theirs (test 5 boats in every direction).
