Foul,
The Alpha don't go on the same as a Bravo. They have the "C" channel lookin piece on the end of a shaft that is attached to the cable via a cam and shift slide. That part stays on the bellhousing. You just have to make sure it's in forward gear, and align the "C" channel with the rectangular arm on top of the shift shaft coming out of the drive. ;) |
O.K. But this guy still screwed mine up. It was kinked where it went thru the transom (or wasn't supposed to go thru the transom  ) Either way, I needed a new cable, which he ended up paying for.

Foul, That sucks. I hate it when other people #uck up my stuff. It's bad enough when I do it. :D

Well, it was a long time ago, and that mechanic is dead now. He was pretty old then, would be REALLY old now.

Update.....I just remembered when I was stabbing the outdrive back on, The gear selector on the outdrive was bent (me putting it on at the wrong angle. I bent it down a little and Got it on. Could the friction there be causing it not to go into gear? If so, Would you bend it back or replace it?
|
The friction wouldn't cause it to not go into gear since it's just a coupler. I would trim the drive up a little so you can look underneath and see the shift shaft coupling, have someone shift it WHILE you are turning the prop by hand and see what is happening. Leave engine off. If everything seems OK, refer to my previous post about the adjustable stud. This one got me before.

Good idea. Thanks Jim. Ill give it a try.
Its probably something easy, but Im frustrated with it right now   |
Isn't there a switch hooked up on the shifter bracket that cuts the ignition for a split second when you shift to allof for engaugement of the gears? Maybe it's not hooked up or adjusted properly? Just an idea.
|
There is a switch, and that is whats killing the engine, but something is sticking lower to cause that.
Thanks for the help Jason |
You have got something bent in the lower.(shift spool,or the shift crank)
