TRS/Speedmaster 2, trim cylinder

I was testing my hydraulics and I noticed fluid leaking from the fitting closest to the piston. Tried to tighten it, but would not. Took it apart and the treads in the cylinder are stripped. Not REAL bad but enough that a fix is in order. It stripped from being cross treaded.

How do I fix this? Can I drill and tap it larger? Spoke to a hydraulic shop. They quoted $125 to fix it. Should I replace it (any used cylinders around)?

Help!

Thanks,

Bryan

Those are inverted flair compression fittings. If you drill + tap you'll have to get a new hose made with inverted flair on one end to npt on the other. If you check automotive, brake, and hydraulic shops, you may be able to find an npt to inverted flair fitting that would allow tapping the cylinder, using the npt to flair fitting as an adapter, and still use the existing line. Take the cylinder + line with you and see if they have that fitting.

Drill and tap for 1/8 pipe and use an inverted flare adapter, 1/8 NPT to 3/16 inverted flare, same as a brake line. you can find it at an auto parts store. Don't even take it apart, use a vacuum cleaner to clean the chips.

Glad to help. Use type F or FA (Ford spec), non synthetic.
