Bravo 1 question

What kinda signs are there to know if a clutch is bad or not. Tearing down the drive and was wanting to know if these things go bad before I waste money on it. Thank for any replies.

Re: Bravo 1 question

Usually you will see a flattening of the ribs on the cone clutch. You might see damage to the gear surface where the clutch and gear surfaces meet. If you do see excessive wear in both places, it might warrant clutch and gear replacement. I have heard of people lapping them in like a valve seat. Never tried it. Are you having problems with it going into gear? It should lock up with little force. Hope this helps.

No it goes in gear fine but was tearing down the drive and wondering what kinda signs to look out for. Also will these clutchs cause any slip of the prop, just curious.

Re: Bravo 1 question

Look for wear on the ribs of the cone clutch and wear on the gear suface.

No prop slip, if it doenst lock, you wont move.

Re: Bravo 1 question

You'll feel a clunking-almost feels like you hit bottom when the clutch starts to slip. There will also be very fine metal particles in the oil. Finally the oil will stink to high heaven from being burned.
