Timing?
I Think My Engine Timing Is Off Because When I First Throttle Up It Misses A Couple Of Times. This Only Happens When I Throttle Up For The First Time. After Running A Bit I Can Throttle Down To Idle Then Punch It Again With No Misses. Can Anyone Tell Me What The Timing Should Be At Idle (700 Rpms) On A 1994 454 Mag? Thanx.

Re: Timing?
Is it a miss or is it more like a stumble? Carbed motor? Is it up to operating temp when you first accelerate? If it's ok once nice and warm , it could be your accerator pump going south on you?
How about a little more info :D |
Re: Timing?
It Is A Carbed Engine And It Is Warm When It Happens. Its Like A Sputter. I Just Had My Carb Rebuilt And I Have New Plugs Wires And Coil.

Re: Timing?
The base timing spec on most Merc engines is 8* at idle. In order to cause a stumble the timing would have to be off considerably and performance would be terrible. I sounds like your plugs are fouling a little bit and after a run the clean up and the stumble is gone. Is the choke adjusted so that it opens all the way once it warms up? That could be causing it to run rich and foul the plugs. Also what plugs do you have in it? They may be too cold.

Re: Timing?
I'll Have To Check The Choke, Although The Carb Is Fresh Off A Rebuild. I Am Running Ngk Plugs. Thanx.
