Checking electric brake controller
 

Is the voltage coming from the trucks brake controller a full 12v at the trailer plug regardless of the controller setting? This is for an adjustable controller, light(unloaded) or heavy (loaded). What is the variable for these 2 settings?

Can hear the trailer brakes energize, but they are way down on stopping power. Basically none.

Will be trying to determine if it is a bad controller, or as simple as a bad ground hopefully tommorrow or so. It is a sudden change, so I kinda ruled out shoes in need of adjustment, plus this is evident in all 4 wheels.

What type of controller do you have.... there are a few differerent styles and all work different....

I have a tekonsha prodigy, and can manually engage my brakes... and it tells me the voltage going to the brakes.... This model works on stopping enertia.

Some of the cheaper ones work on time the brake pedal is depressed....

I don't know yet. It is actually on my sisters truck. She pulls a 40' horse trailer and just told me they went out last weekend .

I have a spare prodigy, If you wanted to borrow it to test things out your welcome to it...... Its very easy to use.....

Maybe here magnets are going bad???? Or.... It really could be anything..... My friend used to run the reese brake controllers... and go through them once a year... They were also hard on the magnets because they ramp up the power while you sit at a stop light... That could be her problem....
