Stellings drive shaft problems
I am thinking of adding a pair of Stellings extention boxes to my V hull. Wondering is the drive shaft has proven to be trouble free for others using it.
Thanks, Jeff Stone |
Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
keep it well greased and make sure the access doors are sealed well. The less you have to raise the box the straighter the u-joints will be

Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
run the stelling box with the imco shaft . works very well as long as the alingment is good I have that set up on my race boat and is trouble free.

Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
CMS,
are you running the stellings carrier bearing assy? How has it held up? If you have the stellings carrier bearing, have you compared it to the merc unit? Which do you think is stronger? |
Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
I think that the biggest difference is that the merc. carrier is a single bearing and the stellings is two bearings.

Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
Pantera 38 I'm Not Running A Carrier I'm Running A Imco Shaft In A Stelling Box . The Shaft Is Aprox. 30'' Long And Does Not Requier A Carrier.

Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
Using the IMCO shaft would require using the stock Merc coupler vs the Stellings coupler then---right?
|
Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
Yes, the Imco shaft uses the stock Bravo coupler.

Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
Does anyone know about how much power a stock Merc coupler is good for after passing the 500hp mark?
|
Re: Stellings drive shaft problems
I've been running 600 plus through a standard coupler, grease and alignment, hopefully I will get the box installed for next year. I know there are a lot of guys running big HP through Standard Merc couplers. How long they last may be another thing, I think the maintenace program has alot to do with it. My o2.
