Engine coolant for 496HO
 

I need to add engine coolant to my 496HO but I can not find mercruisers coolant the pinkish color. I would have to special order from mercruiser. Does anyone know of a coolant/brand that is pinkish to use? At the marine stores I find the dark green coolant but this mixed with the pinkish would look like there is something wrong with the engine because the refill bottle is visiable. What about some auto engine coolant?

Found some at Pep Boys. Pink marine coolant.

The engine coolant in the 496's is NOT the RV (pink) antifreeze. It is the Extended life automotive type and has a redish orange color. You can get this at any auto parts store - Pepboys, Autozone, etc.

Prestone makes some "Prestone® Extended Life 5/150 Antifreeze/Coolant"
Go to www.prestone.com and look for this name under Products heading.

I think it is known as Dexcool. That is what the newer GM vehicles use.
