7.4-310 MPI mods
I recently purchased one, runs perfect, but stock and boring as a rock, with a thru prop B3,
I'm looking for HP gains, reliable 100hp gain would be nice... anybody put a Whipple on a 310 yet? thanx, Jim |
Re: 7.4-310 MPI mods
I picked up 200 RPM at WOT by eliminating that gasket restriction behind the throttle body. This modification alone didn't do much till I raised the fuel pressure. Be careful about what you do to this engine. With cast crank and pistons you shouldn't exceed 4800 RPM. There are kits for pro chargers that advertise 500-HP from this engine but the crank & rods probably won't handle it. Don't waste your money on an MSD box or anything like that because it did nothing. I did however notice that Platinum plugs improved the idle quality that I messed up by increasing the fuel pressure. I have always been against platinum plugs for hi boost turbo/super charged engines; but for this limp wristed rat they work great.

Re: 7.4-310 MPI mods
thanx Roby... I ordered a Corsa thru-hull muffler kit today, as well as a K&N filter, so i'll do the gasket thingy when the filter gets here. Probably won't do any more than maybe add a Stainless Marine or Revolution manifold/risers setup, and then leave it alone. It only has 51.5 hours on it now.
How did you raise the fuel pressure?? is the regulator adjustable?? what did you set it at?? Jim |

Mine is red/white vinyl top, everybody knows it as *Big Red*. Dave Beniseks past NHRA C/SA world record holder. I raced the same class as Turner for years... I know him VERY well.. I've been going to the Nat's since the mid 80's, not the last 2 years though. EVERYBODY at the Nat's knows me, and the car... I also raced a grey Turbo Regal for about 7 years, or more. Lawrence Conley also knows me well. I am now the national event Director for the Buick Performance Group and also the Promoter for the past Buicks at Bristol events.
