Pistons and cam shafts for HP500

I am sure this has been discussed before, but I am into a complete rebuild of my '99 HP500 EFI. My question concerns internal upgrades. Are there better pistons or cam shafts to put in the motor rather than Mercury/GM
replacement parts?

Are there any other upgrades that you guys have found worth it either in HP gains or reliability improvements.

I would repost this thread and name it something like,
"Any Reliability Upgrades for HP500EFI ?"
You might get some activity doing that. I wish I could help you out more.
I thought there was some valvetrain issues to contend with around that year of motor. Maybe it was the carb HP500.
