Help, want to change Fuel/ water sep but can't get the darn thing off
Any ideas how to free a very tightly screwed on fuel/water sep? I am using the filter wrench but not getting anywhere. I tapped on it a little...didn't help. I have gone through this ordeal before on a boat with twins and broke about 5 filter wrenches in the process....not fun. There's got to be an easier way. Any tricks of the trade to make this simple maintenance job go easier? Thanks for any help or ideas.

The last resort is to punch the filter so it drains. Then take a long drift or screw driver and drive it all the way through the filter. Do this close to the base so it can't wrap up. Now you really have something that you can crank on.

Thanks Cord, but is it safe to puncture the fuel/water sperator? I've done it on oil filters when needed but never on fuel/water seperators. Supposedly if there is water in the filter it would be on the bottom.

Hey Mike, how's it going. Thanks for the advice and the offer to come over. I don't have a claw style wrench. I will try what you said about roughing it up a little. I will get this mother off somehow tonight. So I assume it is not a problem if you guys are shoving screwdrivers into them to get them off. I was just concerned about combustion and all.

I'm willing to puncture it but just want to know if it is safe to do at this point.
And you're always welcomed at my place Mike.

GOT it! Thanks for the help. Scuffing worked after all.
I just got the rebuilt carb back and am itching to fire her up again. Ready to go for tomorrow.
