Idle problem after startup, 350 mag

Ive got an 87 with 350 mags

The port engine was stalling out IN gear when i idle around. I dont think its the shift interupt, because it happens after its in gear.

I turned up the idle (temporarily) and it still does it. It idles high, then when its in gear, i can be idling and it will die. New plugs/wires/cap/dist.

I ran a ton of b-12 through it.

Where should i start? vacuum leak or something sticking in the carb?

Its a pain in the a$$ around the docks with one engine dying :(

You need to check your IAC (Idle Air Control) settings. You need a scan tool or a volt metdr to do this. Pretty simple. For the "How to" do a search for "Setting IAC" or IAC. I wrote a procedure up on OSO about a year ago.
or use a Merc manual.
Good Luck.

Sounds like it may be time to rebuild the carb.

I have the exact same problem engine runs great when cold but when it's warm and I come down to idle it stalls (intermittently), where's the best place to get a rebuild kit from?

Swap the carbs from motor to motor and see if the problem follows the carb. Then decide what to do next.

if its a quadrajet get the number stamped on the carb and go to pep boys or napa and they can look it up and order you the kit a whole lot cheaper than the marina. most other auto parts stores cant cross reference buy part number any more but you can try them.

They are q-jets i just wasn't sure if automotive stores could get the kits for marine carbs if there is any difference in the rebuild kits. Thanks for the info.

thats why you need the numbers stamped on the carb so they can order the correct kit the kits are carb specific so it will work if you follow the directions. i bought the exact same kit from pep boys it was like $20.00 at the boat place it was $60.00 same kit same instructions pretty sad.
