Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Can anyone tell me what is the best stuff to get stains off of the hull? I left my baja in the water for 3 days and now its stained to hell!!! I tried pressure washer and degreaser with no luck. Lesson learned here....Algae is not your friend!!!

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Try Ringo. Do a search on here. I bought mine from someone on here.

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
i use a product called off/on....works awesome. i usually buy it at boaters world, or west marine
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Thanks guys...I'll check it out.
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Definately On Off. You can find it at boatus of west marine. It's mureatic acid and nothing works as well.
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
something a bit less harsh than on-off woud be start-brite hull cleaner.. works like a charm and won't tear your lungs, skin and trailer up..
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Starbrite Hull Cleaner (acid/wear gloves and eye protection), available at West Marine and Boat US
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
i was also told by a friend of mine that details boats, that he got sick of paying the price for OFF/ON...now he buys 1-5 gallon jugs at Home Depot for like 1/2 the price
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
pressure washer won't do dick, as I am sure you now know. If On/Off -don't let it sit for long, strong stuff.

Sno-Bol works great just like the Starbrite product but is $1.79 for 24oz. Just spray it on let it sit for a minute or so and hose off, would not use on paint. If your doing gel coat and not paint and boat is on a rack instead of your trailer muriatic acid works well also and is fairly cheap from pool stores- it won't hurt fiberglass or stainless.
And of course there is the Mr Clean Magic Eraser if you want to use a chemical free approach and it works.. Just my 3 cents, Rick |
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Whats in Mr Clean Magic Eraser that takes out the stain???
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
I don't know but that Mr. Clean Magic Eraser does miracles on white upholstery.
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
I use Orange Blast Wheel cleaner(not their grease cutter). Works like a champ and cheap. Available at Pep Boys and other auto supplies. Spary in on and 5 to 10 seconds its white again. Rinse off. It contains oxalic acid...not all wheel cleaners do. Rinse trailer good when you're done as it will spot aluminum.

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
I think i am going to try the sno ball first. I have worked with the acid before and its pretty harsh stuff. Thanks for the input guys.
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Oxyclean also works great on hull stains also thumbs up for the Mr. Clean magic eraser
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
On/Off is not mureatic acid, it's oxalic acid. Also, 1 cup in 2 gallons of water is all you'll need to remove stains.
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
It's hydrochloric acid, the same thing in toilet bowl cleaner in a stiffer concentration. Use it liberally straight outa da jug. Won't harm gel, though it will burn your hands (draws the oils right outa your skin) and anywhere on your face is especially sensative, even to the fumes. It will discolor lesser plastics, bleaches the color out. Great for plugged sinuses. Been using it for 15 years, 6 boats that are slipped...I know what stain removal is about.

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Ringo
The stuff everone else listed is too harsh and gel damage will/can occur. You can buy it from Vyper340. I'll send him a PM. |
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
A product called SLX from Stuart Florida is the best stuff and it does not dull the paint or take any coatings off gel.
You can call Riverwatch Marina 772 286 3456 They can tell you where to order or send you some!! It works great!!! |

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Ringo is the only thing that works in my opinion and you can use it anywhere, including the bilge, since it's a gel based cleaner that you simply wipe on and spray off. It does not get any easier than that for a product that really works and does not damage your gel, paint or parts. I also offer a money back promise if you don't think it's the best and easiest cleaner. Ask any of the hundreds of people on OSO that have purchased it if you want different opinions.
Email me if you want some. |
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
The best product I've found is plain old white vinegar. Spray it on, wipe it off, joila-no stains.

Plain muratic acid works just as well as any hull cleaner I have ever tried. Its only $3 a gallon. Put it in a pump garden sprayer, spray it on and in 60 seconds rinse it off. Rinse the boat and especially the trailer VERY well. The stuff is hell on bare metal. Stay up wind from it also. The fumes suck. |
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Hey, check this stuff out on ebay "Slimy Grimy" I'll put that up against anything!!!!!! It's powder you mix with water, no bs it works awesome I benefit nothing from this just giving my .02 worth

West Marine Hull Cleaner....

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Also.... If your having trouble with returning stains on hull try a couple of coats of 3M Paste Wax. Worked great on my old Wellcraft, it lasted the whole season. Just my .02 :D

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
My boat was stained after 2 days in the river last yr. Ringo, On-Off, Sno-Bol and any other cleaner I tried would not touch it. Simple green and a very soft brush took it right off. A couple other friends used Slimy Grimy on theirs then. Sprayed it on and the stains just ran off.

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
anyone find a pressure sprayer that wont disolve itself after applying 6 ounces of on/off? Its the easiest way to apply but the acid eats plastic fast!
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Another user of Slimy Grimy. I mix the powder with water in a garden sprayer and spray it on and the stains just disapear. It is pretty costly but it sure takes off the crud.
I did notice it can spot metal or unpainted parts on a trailer if not rinsed quick. Cordell |
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
There is a product called slimeyGrimey, and it is not as harsh as OnandOFF works real well with stains.....
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Check ebay thats where I buy that slimy grimy it's alot cheaper..
|
Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
Just be carefull with any of the On/Off's and stuff if you have a alluminum or galvi trailer. The stuff will attach it. Make sure you wash everything off REAL well after you are done. I guess you could spray everything down with TUMS when you are done :D:D

Re: Hull stains are a b*tch!!!
sno bowl is the best ive ever found....just swipe it on and the stains dissapear
